Heisenji Hakusan-Jinja Shrine Walking tour
Heisenji Hakusan Shrine was established in year 717 as a base for Mount Hakusan pilgrimages which eventually attracted many worshippers.
Due to its beautiful moss carpet garden, the shrine was designated as a National Place of Scenic Beauty.
Although it was originally built as a temple, after being destroyed and reconstructed, it was made into a Shinto Shrine in the Meiji era. During an excavation in 1989, a vast area of the temple ruins were discovered thus a big part of the area was
designated as a National Historic Site of Japan. Walk through this amazing area with a local guide and enjoy the nature while learning the history of this wonderful place.

Enjoy an authentic traditional lunch at Kagetsuro restaurant which was established in a historical building built in the 30th year of Meiji era.
After lunch, you will be entertained with a small performance of Katsuyama Sagicho Festival which dates back over 300 years.
Enjoy the live performance by the local performers where you will also have a chance to participate and experience beating the taiko drum or dancing along to the beat while being dressed in a long red kimono and a traditional mask.
